Don’t Give Up on Me Yet

June 2nd, 2006 · No Comments

So…nearly two weeks and no updates? What gives? Well, digging through six years worth of poorly organized archives of audio was a more daunting task then I had imagined. Backup tips:

  • Don’t be stupid (like me) and remember to mix your project down to a single file. Sure, it’s nice to be able to go back into the project file and adjust the levels on a five year old song, but if you are running a different program or version or have completely different plugins installed on your current box, it may not sound right and may not even open.
  • Don’t be even stupider (like me) and remember, if you care at all about a song, make multiple backups. Those cheap CDRs you thought were a great deal five years ago suck. They have been decomposing and you will not be happy when you try to copy the files from the disc and your computer freezes up due to “unreadable sectors.” I discovered today that a disc containing over 70 minutes of completed songs from 2000-2001 is nearly unreadable. I may be able to salvage some of it, but a few of the songs are definitely gone for good.

That said, expect some old school jams from the lot lemmwax archives to be posted soon.
